WW&S Committee Photo 2016

The committee of Wine Women & Shoes, presented by EXIT Lonestar Realty, is adding a special touch to their third annual fall event. This year, the New York style fashion show will feature exclusively models who have been affected by breast cancer. You’ll see women who are battling breast cancer, won the battle, supportive sisters, friends, and mother-daughter teams all showcasing this year’s newest trends from Dillard’s.

“We are honored to be featuring all of these strong women,” said Erica Johnson, Founder and Executive Director of The Breast Cancer Charities of America. “It’s such a great way for us to show the community the true faces of breast cancer.  When someone is diagnosed with breast cancer, it doesn’t just impact the patient; it touches family, friends and loved ones.”  This year attendees will see over 24 local survivors, patients and loved ones walking the runway to show their support for the cause.

Also this year, the Wine Women & Shoes committee has selected Montgomery County Treasurer, Stephanne Davenport, as the annual spotlight survivor.  Last year, Stephanne walked in the fashion show literally days after her last round of treatment.  Stephanne is very active and involved with the educational and program service platforms that BCCA provides and the committee is honored to have her spotlighted this year.

Tickets for Wine Women & Shoes are available now. VIP tickets and Platinum VIP tables are available on a first come first serve basis. Sponsorship opportunities also remain. To find out more information visit: www.WineWomenandShoes.com/Houston  or www.iGoPink.org

The Breast Cancer Charities of America is in the process of accepting applications for their iGoPink Scholarship, which is granted to students whose families have been affected by breast cancer.  The iGoPink Scholarship is a Houston-only program service of BCCA servicing our local community.

“So many patients that we service will reach out to us, saying that the thing they care about the most is that their breast cancer journey doesn’t impact their children.  Many fear that the costs of treatment may inhibit the family’s ability to send their child to college,” said Erica Johnson, Founder and Executive Director of The Breast Cancer Charities of America.  “That’s where the iGoPink Scholarship can step in and help these local families.”

Those awarded will not only receive the scholarship, but will also have the opportunity to be a part of a survivors photoshoot, produced by Holly Davis Photography, which will be featured on The Breast Cancer Charities of America’s webpage, sharing their survivor stories and testimonies with hopes to inspire other families who are going through the same struggles.

Recipients must live within 50 miles of Houston and have an immediate family relative who has been diagnosed with breast cancer in the last year. If you or someone you know is graduating this spring, learn more and apply by April 21st on our iGoPink Scholarship page.

How To Add NEW YouTube Donation Cards

Breast Cancer, Breast Cancer Awareness, iGoPink Blog, iGoPink News, Media Center, Uncategorized No Comments

Great news! YouTube, the video-sharing website that many of us use daily, announced yesterday that they have rolled out a new feature called “donation cards.” Along with other pre-existing “cards” available to YouTube content creators, donation cards are now available to appear on videos. The custom cards can now be created to invite subscribers and viewers to donate directly from the video to the YouTuber’s favorite nonprofit.

So how does it work? To add a donation card, you must have a YouTube account and have uploaded a video or videos to your channel. Now let’s get started!

1. Sign into your YouTube account, go to your Video Manager.

2. Go to “Videos” and on an uploaded video, click the “down arrow” button, and on the drop down select “Cards.”

Screenshot 2016-01-27 11.29.54

3. The selected video will appear and begin to play. Click on “Add card“, locate “Donation” on the dropdown, and click the “Create” button.

Screenshot 2016-01-27 11.30.33

4. Next, type in the name of any any United States, IRS-validated 501(c)3 public nonprofit organization, such as our nonprofit organization listed as “iGoPink” for The Breast Cancer Charities of America.

Once you have typed in the nonprofit’s name (such as “iGoPink“), the name will appear, click on the organization’s image (if available), and select “Create card.”

Screenshot 2016-01-27 11.30.53

5. Now you are able to customize the card by adding a title, teaser text, and select “Create card.”

You can even change the image from the selected image options; however, you cannot upload a new image.

6. After the card is created, you can change where the card appears in your video by dragging the slider, located underneath the video, to the desired time (for example, 1:06 in this video below).

7. Note that just like other YouTube card selections, you cannot add 2 cards that promote the same link, nonprofit, video, playlist, or function. (see warning below)

Screenshot 2016-01-27 10.53.17

8. Your card is now automatically saved and visible to all subscribers and viewers who watch your video!

The “card” will appear at the designated time and in the top right hand corner of the video (Desktop view).

Screenshot 2016-01-27 10.54.29

If a viewer selects the card, an additional panel with your message (custom title and teaser) will appear (Desktop view).

Screenshot 2016-01-27 10.54.47

Once the viewer selects the message on the new panel, a pop up will appear over the video and gives the viewer an opportunity to make a donation. The viewer can select $5, $10, $20, or other amount to donate before selecting Next.

Screenshot 2016-01-27 10.55.00

In the final step, the viewer (and donor) can review their donation, add a payment method, and press Accept and Donate to make a donation to iGoPink or another U.S. nonprofit organization.

Watch YouTube’s “donation card” feature in action by viewing iGoPink’s Apple Pie Bites video below! The “donation card” will appear at 1:06.

YouTube has over a billion users that now have new opportunities to do good for great causes across the United States! We hope you try YouTube’s newest feature and transform each view into a donation.

Stretching: From Hospital Bed To Floor

BCCA Pure Barre Stretch.004
Stretching can help anyone at any time! It helps relax, lengthen and release tension from muscles no matter what your physical ability is.

It’s important to start at an easy/moderate stretch and work on flexibility before working your way up to a deeper stretch. It’s best if your muscles are warmed up to increase your flexibility, but really, it can be done even while watching TV!

BCCA Pure Barre Stretch.001

Make sure when reaching for your toes you avoid rounding out your back and try to release from your waist, relax your shoulders, take nice deep breathes and hold anywhere from 20 seconds to 45 seconds, always continuing to breathe.

BCCA Pure Barre Stretch.002

A side bend stretch releases all the tension from your rib cage down to your ‘seat’ (glute) muscles – hold this one where you feel a nice lengthening down the side, but stop before you feel too much pain or resistance. Your body will tell you.

BCCA Pure Barre Stretch.003

Jaimee Myers is a member of The Breast Cancer Charities of America’s Advisory Board and owner of Pure Barre in The Woodlands, Texas. She has been an athlete all her life – from competitive ski racing to collegiate soccer to Ironman triathlons – and spreads the Pure Barre technique to clients, who see results while having a great time. Pure Barre is all about small, isometric movements that anyone can benefit from – it strengthens, arms, abs and legs without creating bulk. To learn more, visit http://purebarre.com/TX-woodlands/
